Members of the Palestinian eGovernment Academy visited STAR Lab at Vrije University Brussels in Belgium, from January 11, 2012 to January 14, 2012 as a part of the academy activities. The goal of this visit is to review and evaluate the training program (6 tutorials, 300 teaching hours), which are Data and Business Process Modeling, Data Integrating and open Information System, Process Integration and Services Oriented Architectures, Ontology Engineering and Lexical Semantics, Information Security and Legal Information and IT laws.
During the meeting the tutorials were discussed with highly experienced professionals in the mentioned fields.

The OTM 2011 federated conferences and workshops are organized in Crete, Greece (17~21 Oct. 2011)

Seminar "Cloud Computing: Issues and Challenges"
On Thursday 7 July 2011 at 15:00 D2.01 Prof. Dr. Tharam Dillon - Research Professor and head of R&D of the Digital Ecosystems and Business Intelligence Institution at Curtin University in Western Australia - will hold a seminar entitled "Cloud Computing: Issues and Challenges". The seminar is open to anyone. Confirm your attendance by sending an email to chrdebru@vub.ac.be.
The seminar is organized in the context of the INNOViris Strategic Platforms project "Open Semantic Cloud for Brussels" (http://www.oscb.be).
Zhenzhen Zhao's visit at STARLab
Zhenzhen Zhao works at Institut Télécom, Télécom SudParis as a HCI researcher and is currently pursuing a PhD on the topic of end-user driven service creation. Her current research interests include user perceptions of web mashups, front-end web page customization and social networks. She received her M.S. in Telecom Engineering from the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), China.
New research project: Open Semantic Cloud for Brussels (OSCB)

VUB STARLab leads a new project called "Open Semantic Cloud for Brussels"(OSCB) started on February 1st, 2011. OSCB aims to cover Brussels with a cloud of structured and interlinked information elements produced by "atomizing" a collection of relevant databases and other resources. Linked Data is a global initiative to interlink resources on the Web using two "simple" technologies: Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI) for accessing the resources and the Resource Description Framework (RDF) for representing knowledge and annotating those resources.

DYSE review meeting in Finland
VUB STARLab has participated in the ITEA 2 DiYSE Project (Do-it-Yourself Smart Experiences: Supporting Users in Creating Aware, Interactive & Flowing Experiences in an Internet-Of-Things World) review meeting (Nov. 9, 2010) and general assembly meetings (Nov. 8 and 10. 2010). It started to snow in the morning of Nov. 9, 2010. The atmosphere was warm although it was very cold outside.
OnTheMove Academy
On Sunday the 24th of October, OnTheMove Academy took place at at the Aldemar Knossos Royal Village Hotel and Conference Center in Hersonissou, Crete, Greece. It was organized as one of the OnTheMove Conferences and Workshops.
DYSE won the reward of best exhibitor at ITEA & ARTEMIS Co-summit 2010!
NewsYesterday at the closing session of the ITEA2-Artemis Co-Summit (aka ITEA2 Symposium), among the nearly 60 stand at the ITEA2 floor, one project received the Exhibition Award 2010: it was: DiY Smart Experiences (DYSE)! VUB STARLab is one of the DYSE partners.
The approximately 500 visitors of the co-summit voted, and decided that we have done a great job bringing clear messages on the value DiYSE is progressively delivering.
Panel discussion (EI2N and SeDeS'2010)
NewsWe had a panel discussion on the role of Ontology Engineering (OE) in Enterprise Interoperability (EI) in the afternoon, on Oct. 27th, 2010. It lasted for an hour and half. Critical issues concerning OE and EI have been discussed. We really appreciate how active all the participants were to pose and answer questions.

Seminar "The Power and Limits of Relational Technology in the Age of Information Ecosystems" by Michael Brodie

On Wednesday the 20th of October 2010 at 15h in room D.2.06, Dr. Michael Brodie (Chief Scientist Verizon USA) will hold an interactive seminar entitled “The Power and Limits of Relational Technology in the Age of Information Ecosystems” in which he aims to discuss the ideas that he will present at a keynote carrying the same title later that month.

NewsDr. Ioana Ciuciu visited INRIA, Sophia-Antipolis, France and MIRALab, University of Geneva, Switzerland from 28 June - 7 July, based on the International Mobility Contract (IMC) of the 3DAH Project. The principle of the IMC is to give researchers the opportunity of working with a different partner team for a short period of time.

The Greek Interoperability Center is an organization supported by the EC 7th Framework Programme. The main goal of the Greek Interoperability Centre is to establish a new research centre targeting eGovernment and eBusiness Interoperability Research. The Greek Interoperability Centre aims at becoming a premium research centre in the field of Interoperability, forming a strong regional pole of research and technology in Europe.
