VUB STARLab leads a new project called "Open Semantic Cloud for Brussels"(OSCB) started on February 1st, 2011. OSCB aims to cover Brussels with a cloud of structured and interlinked information elements produced by "atomizing" a collection of relevant databases and other resources. Linked Data is a global initiative to interlink resources on the Web using two "simple" technologies: Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI) for accessing the resources and the Resource Description Framework (RDF) for representing knowledge and annotating those resources.
VUB STARLab has participated in the ITEA 2 DiYSE Project (Do-it-Yourself Smart Experiences: Supporting Users in Creating Aware, Interactive & Flowing Experiences in an Internet-Of-Things World) review meeting (Nov. 9, 2010) and general assembly meetings (Nov. 8 and 10. 2010). It started to snow in the morning of Nov. 9, 2010. The atmosphere was warm although it was very cold outside.
Yesterday at the closing session of the ITEA2-Artemis Co-Summit (aka ITEA2 Symposium), among the nearly 60 stand at the ITEA2 floor, one project received the Exhibition Award 2010: it was: DiY Smart Experiences (DYSE)! VUB STARLab is one of the DYSE partners.
The approximately 500 visitors of the co-summit voted, and decided that we have done a great job bringing clear messages on the value DiYSE is progressively delivering.
We had a panel discussion on the role of Ontology Engineering (OE) in Enterprise Interoperability (EI) in the afternoon, on Oct. 27th, 2010. It lasted for an hour and half. Critical issues concerning OE and EI have been discussed. We really appreciate how active all the participants were to pose and answer questions.
The slides used for the panel discussion can be downloaded here.

We had STARLab New Year lunch at la quincaillerie, which resides at Ixelles, Rue Du Page 45, Brussels.
We choose there because of beautiful 80's decoration and good food (see the picture on the right from the official website: http://www.quincaillerie.be/).
On Dec. 18, 2009, we had a STARLab Christmas dinner at an Ethiopian restaurant.
